"Dilarang Membuang Sampah di Jalan Tol"
Everyday I have to use TOLL road and I have to pay TOLL fee as much as Rp 4500. Everytime after I payed toll fee I saw a white big sign board in my right said which say "Dilarang Membuang Sampah di Jalan Tol."
As a bule (foreigner in Indonesia), I don't really understand what is the meaning of the sign. But I saw something everybody does, in front of me, after they passed the toll locket.
It had become so predictable about what every cars (every driver in the car) in front of me will do after they payed toll fee in the locket.
From the driver seat in my car I can see a variety of hands sticking out from their car, paying money to the officer, receiving receipt and change money if any, and then, after they passed the locket, in front of that white sign board, they will throw away the little receipt they just received.
I saw every kind of hands did that, small hands, big hands, black hands, white hands, hairy hands, not hairy hands, hand with beautiful ring, hand with expensive watch, hand with colorful fingernails ...
Also from every kind of cars: expensive cars, ugly cars, new cars, big cars, small cars.
As a bule, I really don't understand this behavior. It seems so strange for me how easily everybody throw something on the road that are so clean. And how strange it is to see that thisbehaviour had become so common. I begin to wonder does that white sign means you have to throw away your receipt after you received it from the officer?
Even when I saw everybody does it and despite my suspicion about the meaning of the white sign board, I still can't seem to bring myself to do such behavior. In my country, this kind of behavior would not be tolerated.
That was why as you can see in my car, below my dashboard, I keep all the receipts from Toll officers. I will throw them away monthly or weekly, or when I wash my car, but I'm not gonna easily throw something somebody give you. You can at least appreciate the officer that already gave you the receipt by keeping it. Sometimes I can use it to write down my ideas that suddenly come up in my drive.
Well, at least, can somebody tell me what the sign "Dilarang Membuang Sampah di Jalan Tol" means?
